Carter Day Trommel
The Carter Day Trommel is a high-capacity rotary drum screen and cylindrical separator designed for initial cleaning, scalping, and sifting of cereal grains and other free-flowing granular materials. It provides an efficient method for removing oversized material, fines, and other unwanted particles from products such as wheat, oats, rice, corn, sunflower, barley, and soybeans.
The Trommel features a shaftless rotating cylinder available in 36″ or 50″ diameters. Four- or five-section cylinder configurations are available, with each section covered by patented screen segments. Multiple screen arrangements allow the Trommel to be configured for sifting, scalping, or combined sift-and-scalp applications.
Product enters the Trommel and is directed into the rotating screened cylinder. Depending on the application, individual cylinder sections can be configured for sifting, scalping, or a combination of both. In sift-and-scalp applications, sifting typically occurs in the first section or sections, followed by scalping in the later sections. Larger product exits through the end of the cylinder, while fines and scalped material are discharged through the screened sections.
The Carter Day Trommel can also be equipped with a high-capacity, low-profile aspirator for additional removal of lightweight material, providing greater cleaning capability in a single machine.
Drum Section Design
The modular drum section design provides structural strength and fatigue resistance through angle-iron longitudinal stringers and rods used for circumferential cross-bracing. The shaftless cylinder is supported by a stub shaft at the discharge end and three trunnions, eliminating a center shaft and bearing from the product flow area.
